Description: | LEED Certified PLATINUM The Chicago Center for Green Technology (CCGT) was awarded a Platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEEDTM) rating from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The CCGT is only the third building in the country to receive this prestigious certification, and is the first renovated structure and government owned building to earn this rating. May 4th, 2002 was the grand opening of this renovated former brownfield site into a model of environmentally friendly design. When complete the building will house a solar panel manufacturer; Greencorps Chicago, Mayor Daley's community gardening and job skills program; and a community design studio for the public. The building will feature solar and geothermal power, a rooftop garden, a habitat area that filters storm water, and recycled finishing products. The grounds will include city-lot-sized test plots for community gardens and a greenhouse. Visit the Department of Environment website. Awards
