Description: Chicago Remembers Events of September 11, 2001

Mayor Richard M. Daley and Governor George H. Ryan joined thousands of Chicago residents on Daley Plaza today in a memorial observance in honor of the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The master of ceremonies for the Chicago Remembers Observance was actor Gary Sinise, co-founder of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. He was joined by actors Henry Godinez, Martha Lavey and E. Milton Wheeler, who read and performed works by Maya Angelou, Theodore Roosevelt, John Donne and William Wordsworth.

Musical selections were performed by Chicago soprano Elizabeth Norman, the Asbury Brass Quintet and the Bank One Choir.

The ceremony included the reading of the Chicago Prayer of Unity, Remembrance and Hope by members of the National Conference for Community and Justice.
